Books, Balls and Bicycles

As a result of a recent appeal on streetlife.com, Porridge and Rice received over 60 bicycles, more than 50 balls, and a large number of children's books.

The balls will enable schools to run regular football sessions and the bicycles will allow them to teach children to ride. The cost of balls and bicycles means that few children from the Nairobi slums ever enjoy either activity. The books will be used to continue to build libraries at each school.

If you have any books, balls, and bicycles to donate, please email Porridge and Rice.

Tilnar Cycle Challenge

The Tilnar Cycle Challenge is an event for everyone.

It is an event for the eager sportsperson or the social family cyclist. It can be done on your own or as part of a group. It can be for the whole day, or half an hour. It can be done through miles of countryside, or around the school field. You, your team, your school, or your family decide where and how you want to run the event.

  • Date: 26th June 2016
  • Adult Entry Fee: £12.95 with £9 donated to charity
  • Child Entry Fee: £4.95 with £3 donated to charity

The Tilnar Cycle Challenge donates £9 per adult registration and £3 per child registration to Porridge and Rice if you choose the charity.

Farmco International

Farmco International sells equipment in Kenya which it transports from its warehouse in Watford by container at regular intervals.

Himesh Patel (on the left in the picture), has said that Porridge and Rice can use extra space in containers sent to Kenya by his company at no cost. It is thanks to such amazing generosity that Porridge and Rice continues to grow.

Central Moves

Central Moves of Twickenham has committed to transporting goods for Porridge and Rice once a month from Whitton to Watford, at no cost to the charity.

This means that the charity is able to transport goods from its UK address to its partner schools in Kenya at no cost, thanks to the generosity of Central Moves and Farmco International.

Wine Tasting

On 6 May 2016, Porridge and Rice had an evening of light hearted games and relaxed wine tasting to celebrate its second birthday and raise funds for its work in Kenya.

There were a lot of laughs, some excellent cheeses, and even some interesting information about wine. It was a fun evening with 45 tickets sold.

Middlesex University

On Monday 11 April 2016, Theresa Sainsbury and Ken Surridge attended the Sciences Career Expo at Middlesex University to talk to students about internships, electives, placements, and volunteering with Porridge and Rice.

It was a very successful day with many students expressing interest in the work of the charity and over 50 students signing up for the mailing list to receive further information.
